To Visit

  • Mura - Walk, bike, or run along the best preserved Renaissance fortifications in Europe that span 4.2 km.

  • Torre Guinigi - Climb the 233 steps and reach the oak trees growing on top of the tower for a nice panoramic view of the city. Tickets are approx. €4/adult.

  • Piazza dell’Anfiteatro - Take a picture in the former 2nd century Roman amphitheater and imagine the 10,000 spectators cheering.

  • Puccini Museum - Walk through the childhood home of Giacomo Puccini, one of the most famous opera composers. Tickets are €9/adult.

  • Piazza Napoleone/Grande - Walk around the piazza lined with sycamore trees that was named after Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi, Napoleon’s sister, who ruled the Principality of Lucca in the 1800s.

  • Piazza San Michele - Walk around the San Michele basilica that was built over the ancient Roman forum. Legend says the angel’s finger contains a huge diamond and that its sparkle can be seen at night by standing at a specific spot.

  • Via Fillungo - Walk through this cobbled street full of medieval buildings, shops, quaint cafes, and charming side alleys.

  • In general, you cannot go wrong with walking around and exploring!
